SEALCOATINGFAQ
Why should I sealcoat my driveway?
From our past experience working with homeowners, we can tell you that you’ll end up saving money in the long run by paying for sealcoating now than asphalt repairs later. Blacktop sealer protects your driveway against rain, snow, sleet, UV rays, and automobile fluids. Not only does sealcoating save you money in the long run on asphalt repairs, but it also improves curb appeal. Asphalt sealer gives your driveway a rich black color like it had when it was first installed.
Asphalt driveway sealer protects pavement by:
-
Retaining moisture content so asphalt doesn’t deteriorate
-
Blocking UV rays that can fade asphalt
-
Forming a hard barrier against automobile fluids that soften asphalt
-
Restoring the rich black color of asphalt
-
Filling small voids to help pavement look even
What temperatures are needed for sealcoating?
Even the best driveway sealer needs to be applied in ground and air temperatures above 50 degrees. Warm sunny weather is best for asphalt sealcoating because it decreases the amount of time it needs to cure. Since driveway sealer takes longer to cure with cool temperatures and overcast skies, you’ll want to check your local forecast before calling an asphalt contractor.
What months are best for asphalt sealcoating?
In general, we are able to do asphalt sealcoating from May to October. However, keep in mind that there may be opportunities to sealcoat outside these months if we experience unseasonably warm weather in spring or early fall. How long we are able to offer sealcoating services depends on the weather.
Compared to southern states like Florida, New York has a short sealcoating season, which is why you’ll want to call us as soon as possible. Once the snow melts, there will be high demand for asphalt sealcoating.
How long does it take for a driveway to cure after sealcoating?
If there’s low humidity on the day we apply sealcoat, your driveway could cure in as little as 5 hours. However, we recommend waiting at least 24-48 hours before letting vehicles drive and park in your driveway.
Does sealcoating fill cracks?
No. In fact, you’ll need to invest in crack and pothole repair before you can start sealcoating. It’s important to understand that sealcoating is a way to prevent damage, not fix it. While other companies would postpone sealcoating if they found driveway cracks, we offer Hot Rubberized Crack Fill service so we can get the project done in one day.
Who can I trust for asphalt sealcoating?
Shepherd Sealcoating, of course! We offer high quality asphalt emulsion sealer & crack filling services so your driveway lasts for years to come.
